IELTS Writing Task 2 (Essay) Question
Some people think that spending a lot on holding wedding parties, birthday parties, and other celebrations is just a waste of money. Others, however, think that these are necessary for individuals and society.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

View 1 (spending a lot on celebrations is a waste of money)
- It has no long-term benefits
- It is just to show off
- It encourages consumerism and materialism
- Most people end up wasting what little money they have just to impress people/guests that are not even very close to them
View 2 (Necessary for individual and society)
- It is an expression of happiness
- It is also a way to share happy moments of life with loved ones -- family and friends
- Celebration of major life events, such as marriage, are once-in-a-lifetime experiences
- One creates memories that are cherished for life. E.g., People enjoy looking at photographs from such parties throughout their life.
- As for society, such celebrations help people interact and therefore, strengthen societal bonds
- These events are also a great boost to the economy as they encourage spending and provide a source of employment.
