Formal/Semi-formal letters

Letter of complaint
You may need to introduce yourself before starting with the following sentences, especially in the case of the semi-formal letters

  • I am writing in connection with

Giving details about the problem (examples)
  • Although the description of the product mentioned that the charger would be included, when I received the product it was not there.
  • Although the college website mentioned that recordings of all classes are available online for the students, the disappointing ground reality is that most of them are not.

What you expect them to do

  • I would request you to give due attention to this issue and take prompt action to resolve it.
  • I would like a full/partial refund as soon as possible.
  • I would request you to investigate the issues I have highlighted and get back to me at the earliest possible.
  • Could you please arrange for someone to visit the premises and repair the product?
  • I must insist on an immediate replacement or a full refund.
  • I feel/believe that I am entitled to a replacement/refund

What would you do if no action is taken

  • If you do not resolve this, I will have no choice but to report it to the authorities.

Letter to a magazine/newspaper

(commenting on an article/report from a current issue; correcting an error in an article/report; supporting/opposing something written in an article/report)
