IELTS Part 2 (Cue Card) Question:


Describe the first computer you owned.

You should say:
    what kind of computer it was
    when you got it
    what types of things you used it for
and explain how using a computer changed your life.

what kind of computer it was

I vividly remember that the first computer I got was a desktop... Well, I hadn't even heard of laptops back then. It had a bulky screen--took up half the space on my study table. Of course, it had Windows operating system but other than that, I don't remember the other details of the configuration.

Now, I'm so much into computers that I have the configuration of my laptop at my fingertips.

I don't remember exactly when I got it. I must have been in 3rd or 4th grade. I was pretty young

what types of things you used it for

I was supposed to use it for studies which, of course, I did once in a while. But, truth be told, I primarily used the computer for playing games. Especially during vacations, you'd find me playing games day in and day out.

and explain how using a computer changed your life.

My life changed drastically once I got the computer. It opened up the world to me. It changed the way I'd listen to songs or watch movies. There was a complete overhaul in the way I'd spend my leisure time.

The internet speed was excruciatingly slow back then and it cost a bomb. In comparison, it's peanuts now

Since then, there's been a dramatic change in what we use computers for, and how technology has evolved. Now we can use it in an endless number of ways such as creating PowerPoint presentations or designing a website. I feel the sky is actually the limit. Computers and other gadgets like smartphones have become an integral part of our lives.
