In their advertising, businesses nowadays usually emphasise that their products are new in some way. 

Why is this? Do you think it is a positive or negative development?

Reasons

  1. With the aim to sell more --> Make more profit

  2. New features give the opportunity to advertising companies to come up with more innovative and creative features.

Positives of emphasis on products being new in advertising
  1. Consumers become aware of the latest features. As a result, they can compare the features and make the right decision.

  2. Such ads lead to an increase in demand for new products, thereby increasing profits. So, an overall growth of businesses.

  3. Increased profits push businesses and manufacturers to innovate more.

Negatives of emphasis on products being new in advertising
  1. Sometimes the changes are only cosmetic. Therefore, the hype is overrated, thereby disappointing the customers.
    Ads just focus on the new features without being honest about whether they are truly useful.

  2. Ads often exaggerate features. So, they mislead the customers.
