Morning/Evening; Different times of the day (Part 1--IELTS Speaking)

Question:
Do you like morning or evening?

Sample Answer 1 (Evening):
I certainly prefer the evening. I feel I'm more active in the evenings--say, after 5 or so. I'm not really a morning person. Actually, I'm kinda cranky in the mornings.

Sample Answer 2 (Morning):
I'd say, mornings. I feel the first few hours after one wakes up are the most productive ones. Sometimes, I go out of my way to wake up early to enjoy the sunrise. Evenings are great too, but by then the day is winding up. So, of the two, I'd choose mornings.

Sample Answer 3 (No preference. It depends):
I don't really have a preference. It varies from one day to another. If I get enough sleep at night and wake up feeling fresh, then mornings are great. But sometimes, when I've not had enough sleep, I feel like I hate mornings. Similarly, if I have plans for the evening, they are enjoyable. At other times, they can be boring and lonely.

Question:
Why do you think you're not a morning person? (This question can be asked only if your answer to the previous question is 'Sample Answer 1')

Sample Answer 1:
Well, I have difficulty waking up early. Even if I've had a good 8 to 9 hours of sleep, I don't immediately feel fresh or energetic when I wake up. It takes me about an hour or so to come into my own. I feel tired...exhausted, as if I need to sleep more.

Question:
Are you usually awake till late at night?

Sample Answer 1:
More often than not, yes. Being awake till around 1 is almost a routine for me. I am through and through a night owl.

Sample Answer 2:
Not at all. It's rare for me to be awake till late. I am rather particular about going to bed kinda early. You'd usually find me asleep by around 10.

Question (connected to the previous question):
Was it always so?

Sample Answer 1:
No, actually, I developed this habit of sleeping late when I grew a little, especially since I started college. I would stay up till late at night burning the midnight oil. I certainly feel that studying at night is better.

Sample Answer 2:
Oh yes, I've always been into sleeping late and waking up late. Waking up at almost the crack of dawn felt like pure torture to me.

Sample Answer 3:
No, when I was younger, I had an affinity for waking up late. One reason was late nights. But it was also because it's what teenagers do. So, because everyone was doing it, I did it too. But as I grew older, I understood the plethora of benefits of being an early riser.

Sample Answer 4:
Certainly yes. Even as a kid, I would wake up at the crack of dawn. Much as my parents liked the fact that I was disciplined, sometimes it was rather difficult for them during weekends when they wanted to sleep in and I would wake them up.

Question:
How did you feel about waking up early during school days?

Sample Answer 1:
Oh, I hated it. The imposition of having to get up early every single day was a pain. It was a compulsion back then and I'm not good at being too disciplined.

Sample Answer 2:
I'm not sure. I was just doing what I was told. I don't think I ever put much thought into it. I was well into my teens before I kind of started accepting that it's ok not to wake up early. There's this general perception that early risers are somehow always more intelligent or wiser.

Question:
What were your mornings like during weekends when you were younger?

Sample Answer 1:
Well, my mother would wake us up early. Around 9 or so--that's early for me. It was a thing--a big thing--for my mother to have the whole household up well in time. Generally, we'd be done with our breakfast by 10:30. And then, watching cartoons was a ritual that I loved.

Sample Answer 2:
Oh, weekends were heavenly--playing video games till late at night or going out with friends and then sleeping in till well into the afternoon the next morning. Well, that unless I'd have some sports practice, etc.

Question:
Will you make the effort to wake up earlier in the future?

Sample Answer 1:
I don't think so. I don't see any harm in waking up late, so I don't see myself making any such efforts. I have no plans to strive extra hard to be an early riser in the coming years. I'm content with my night owl status.
Also, I know that if need be, I can wake up early, whether it's to attend a class or to catch a flight.
