Sample Essay
It is an undeniable fact that youngsters who live
in villages or small towns and who belong to financially weaker sections of society
struggle to access tertiary education. Consequently, a suggested solution to
this issue is to smoothen the path to institutions of higher education for such
students.
There is many a reason to assent to this solution. It goes without
saying that equal opportunity for each one is imperative which is only possible
if everyone has a fair and equal chance of succeeding. However, due to social
and financial inequalities, many are at a disadvantage. Not only do they usually lack knowledge of
opportunities but there is also dearth of guidance of how to apply to premium
institutes. For someone with the right educational background, guidance, and
exposure, it may be child’s play to fill in university admission forms and
settle into the new environment on the college campus. In contrast, those who
are not privileged, these could be herculean tasks. Additionally, kids from
privileged families have their parents motivating and encouraging them. This
gives them added advantages of confidence and belief in self.
Conversely, there are certain apprehensions against relaxations in
eligibility criteria for certain
prospective students. It is rightly argued that this flexibility may lower the
quality of learners which would finally result in sub-standard workforce.
However, rather than accepting this viewpoint, the need of the hour is to face
this challenge. Therefore, universities can have intensive courses for such
students in the first semester to bridge the learning gap.
Finally, I strongly support the cause of providing
a level playing field for one and all. Hence, it is the responsibility of
society as a whole to facilitate ingress into universities and colleges for
those who may be left behind because of social, geographical, or financial inequalities.
